The Sin of Futility

Romans 8:28 says that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to His purpose. We are not to despair over things that happen in our lives. Giving up, or thinking the things we do don't matter is a lack of trust in the Lord. 

Dorothy Sayers says that this is “… the sin that believes in nothing, cares for nothing, seeks to know nothing, interferes with nothing, enjoys nothing, loves nothing, hates nothing, finds purpose in nothing, lives for nothing, and remains alive only because there is nothing it would die for.”

Teenagers, don’t fall into the “so bored by everything, don’t care about anything” attitude that our culture wants to pin on you. Adults, don’t let suffering and hard times lead you to despair of God’s goodness.

Instead, be content in the Lord, trust Him in all things, and ask Him to replace your feelings of futility with joy.
