Do Not Disavow

Do Not Disavow By: Rick Davis   When Charlemagne established law Salic in barb’rous land, The gospel flourished, and he saw Christ’s praise on every hand.   (“Do you approve his methods now?”) I do not disavow.   King Godfrey took Jerusalem From bloody paynim hands And brought a halt to Musselmen Invading Christian lands.   (“He did some mean things anyhow!”) I do not disavow.   King Richard with his scarlet shield And passant lions ‘bossed Rode forth again unto the field To regain what was lost.   (“His deeds at Acre you allow?”) I do not disavow.   Unto the Germans Luther brought The gospel full restored, And Calvin at Geneva taught The glory of the Lord.   (“The Jews? Servetus? Holy cow!”) I do not disavow.   Stonewall and Lee like knights of old Fought for their native soil, The true and lovely to uphold Against the tyrant’s spoil.   (“Those vile racists ...

Halloween TV Specials

When I was a kid, some of my favorite things about Halloween were the TV specials that went along with the holiday. Come to think of it, now that I’m a grown up, the TV specials are still some of my favorite some of my kids’ favorite things about Halloween. So for the sake of nostalgia, I’m listing the Top 5 Halloween TV Specials. Keep in mind that these are only TV specials related to Halloween. If a movie was released in theaters (“A Nightmare Before Christmas” for example), I’m not considering it for this list.

1. It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Let’s face it: Peanuts had the best Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas Specials. There’s simply no way to compete with the innocence and humor of Charles Schultz’s creations combined with the music of Vince Guaraldi.

2. Garfield’s Halloween Adventure. The old man in this is actually scary. Garfield and Odie facing ghost pirates is a must during Halloween.

3. Halloween with the Addams Family. The real Addams family. Not the imposters from the movies or later TV show. I remember watching this every single year, and loving it.

4. Treehouse of Horror. Okay, I’ll give full disclosure on this one. My parents were good parents, and didn’t let me watch the Simpsons. It was during my college years that I got hooked on the residents of Springfield. The Treehouse of Horror is the annual Simpsons Halloween episode, and unlike many Halloween specials, the ToH are new every year.

5. DTV Monster Hits. This is another of those shows that I remember fondly as a kid. For the longest time, whenever I heard the song “Evil Woman” by ELO, I had to picture the wicked queen from Snow White.

So there they are folks. The top 5 Halloween TV specials. Before I go, I’m going to mention the runners up, both of which you’ve probably never heard of.
