Do Not Disavow

Do Not Disavow By: Rick Davis   When Charlemagne established law Salic in barb’rous land, The gospel flourished, and he saw Christ’s praise on every hand.   (“Do you approve his methods now?”) I do not disavow.   King Godfrey took Jerusalem From bloody paynim hands And brought a halt to Musselmen Invading Christian lands.   (“He did some mean things anyhow!”) I do not disavow.   King Richard with his scarlet shield And passant lions ‘bossed Rode forth again unto the field To regain what was lost.   (“His deeds at Acre you allow?”) I do not disavow.   Unto the Germans Luther brought The gospel full restored, And Calvin at Geneva taught The glory of the Lord.   (“The Jews? Servetus? Holy cow!”) I do not disavow.   Stonewall and Lee like knights of old Fought for their native soil, The true and lovely to uphold Against the tyrant’s spoil.   (“Those vile racists broke their vow!”) I do not disavow.   Men

The Laughter of God

Having surveyed the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11, God calls a council. Previously, we’ve seen the men of Babel say “Go to, let us make bricks,” and “Go to, let us build a city and a tower.” It is not an uncommon expression for kings to use in the Old Testament. However God only uses it once…here.

"Go to," God decrees, and the sarcasm fairly drips from the phrase, "let us go down, and there confound their language." He is mocking and ridiculing outright this work of generations of men, deriding their grandiose schemes.

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. Many Christians believe that rebellion worries God. He wrings His hands in an attempt to gain control of the situation. This is not the God of the Bible. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
