Spiritual Manna

When we hear the world “spiritual,” we tend to contrast it with the “physical” as if the two are opposites. And yet, when the Israelites were fed spiritual food in the wilderness, their physical bellies were really filled. The reason the food was spiritual is that the Holy Spirit joined to the manna the reality of Christ’s presence with His peopl
e. In the same way, you see here bread and wine, physical things, which are you for you, God’s people, spiritual food. As you eat and drink in faith, Christ is present to you by the Holy Spirit, showing, sealing, and confirming His promises to you.
