Do Not Disavow By: Rick Davis   When Charlemagne established law Salic in barb’rous land, The gospel flourished, and he saw Christ’s praise on every hand.   (“Do you approve his methods now?”) I do not disavow.   King Godfrey took Jerusalem From bloody paynim hands And brought a halt to Musselmen Invading Christian lands.   (“He did some mean things anyhow!”) I do not disavow.   King Richard with his scarlet shield And passant lions ‘bossed Rode forth again unto the field To regain what was lost.   (“His deeds at Acre you allow?”) I do not disavow.   Unto the Germans Luther brought The gospel full restored, And Calvin at Geneva taught The glory of the Lord.   (“The Jews? God Keeps His Promises

In his sermon to the crowd in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, Peter echoes the promise God made to Abraham. God promised Abraham to be a God to him and to his children after him. The promise was to his family, but he was also promised that through him, all the families of the earth would be blessed.

In the same way, for you who have repented of your sins and have been baptized into Christ, God promises to be God to you and to your children, and the promise will extend to people far off whom the Lord God will call.

You have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit as a down payment of the full redemption that waits for you at the last day, so that you may believe this promise. So believe it. Rest in the faithful promises of God to you, to your children, and to the rest of the world through you by the outworking of the Great Commission.
