Do Not Disavow

Do Not Disavow By: Rick Davis   When Charlemagne established law Salic in barb’rous land, The gospel flourished, and he saw Christ’s praise on every hand.   (“Do you approve his methods now?”) I do not disavow.   King Godfrey took Jerusalem From bloody paynim hands And brought a halt to Musselmen Invading Christian lands.   (“He did some mean things anyhow!”) I do not disavow.   King Richard with his scarlet shield And passant lions ‘bossed Rode forth again unto the field To regain what was lost.   (“His deeds at Acre you allow?”) I do not disavow.   Unto the Germans Luther brought The gospel full restored, And Calvin at Geneva taught The glory of the Lord.   (“The Jews? Promised Victory

This Thursday is Ascension Day. It's the day we celebrate that Christ has ascended and is currently seated at the right hand of the Father, there to rule over heaven and earth until all His enemies are subdued before Him (Hebrews 10:12-13).

More than that. Has has given His people the water of baptism and the Word of God, and commissioned them to go forth and conquer the world in his name in full assurance that He has all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18-20). By baptism and the proclamation of the good news about Jesus, all the nations will be made Jesus' disciples.

In times of trouble and persecution, it's easy to be fearful about the things going on in the world that we have no control over. But God tells us how to feel in such times. In the time of King Ahaz, when the people of Judah were worried about a conspiracy between the people of Israel and the Syrians to attack and conquer Judah, Isaiah admonishes and comforts them with these words:

"For the Lord spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying: 'Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy, and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread. But the Lord of hosts, him you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.'" -Isaiah 8:11-13

When wicked men form conspiracies against God, He is not threatened; He laughs (Psalm 2:1-4). God's people are storming the Gates of Hell, and those gates will not stand against the onslaught of the Church (Matthew 16:18).

We are promised victory! We know that the world will be conquered for Christ by water and the Word. Jesus is even now breaking the nations with a rod of iron. So look to Jesus Christ, the risen Lord and Savior and the King of the world, and do not be in dread of men.
